Breitling Superocean Héritage II

In recent years, timepieces have seen a surge towards retro styling. In theory, it’s a much easier deal for the designers as they can just pick a few classic models from the archive then throw in a few updates. Of course, this only really works for brands that have a rich history, such as the pioneers of the modern chronograph, Breitling.

Breitling started manufacturing mechanical chronographs in the early 20th century and it was one of the earliest brands to work closely with the aviation industry and set the standard for modern chronographs. Breitling first introduced the Superocean professional diving watch in 1957. This was a time when scuba diving was still in its infancy, and the watch soon became a favourite of the first enthusiasts of leisure diving. Breitling was seen as the leading diving watch manufacturer of the time.

The first key update of the new Superocean Héritage II is the ultra-hard, anti-oxidated and scratch-proof high-tech ceramic bezel on the stainless steel case for better durability. The Superocean Héritage II and the Superocean Héritage II Chronographe feature the Calibre B20 self winding movement (derived from the Tudor Calibre MT5612) and the 13 self winding chronograph movement respectively; both are COSC-certified for guaranteed performance. The shape of the hands — triangular for the hours and lozenge-like for the minutes — as well as the slightly cone-shaped hour-markers connect the new range with the 1957 model.

The new watch collection is water resistant up to 200 metres (660 feet) and is available in three retro colours: black, blue and brown. In addition to leather, crocodile skin and rubber straps, all watches can be fitted with a steel mesh bracelet as in the legendary 1957 version.
