Scandinavian Luxury
The all new Volvo XC90

More than a decade after the first Volvo’s SUV debuted in 2002, the all-new XC90 has finally entered the marketplace.

The new XC90 interior combines materials such as soft leather and wood with handcrafted details, including a gear lever made of crystal glass from Orrefors, the famous Swedish glassmaker, and diamond-cut controls for the start/stop button and volume control. People would like to say, this is luxurious. Yet, how should we interpret the words, ‘Scandinavian Luxury’? According to Robin Page, Head of Interior Design at Volvo Car Group, it would mean, that while simplicity is always fundamental, it would also impart comfort and a feeling of peace. When you step into the new XC90, for instance, every one will feel as though they’ve arrived at home.

Like a smartphone, you can access multiple functions via the touch-screen monitor on central console, but the headlights and glass roof remain activated by lever and button. In a Swedish design studio, the thought is there is no sense making a simple command more complicated by centralising all buttons in a digital interface.

The XC90’s top-of-the-line audio system features a 1,400 Watt Class D amplifier and 19 Bowers & Wilkins speakers; it also includes one legendary Nautilus tweeter on the dashboard.

This genuine seven seater features new, innovative seats that also free up interior space for passengers both in the second and third seat rows. The third row offers class-leading comfort for two passengers up to 170 cm tall. The engine is an all-new 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit that is both turbocharged and supercharged to produce 320 hp/5,700rpm and 40.79 kgm/2,200—5,400rpm, with a combined fuel consumption of 7.7L/100km. This engine will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and power all four wheels.
