Revisiting The Sahara Journey
Citroën Golden Scarab replica

The Citroën Half-Track, more often referred to as the Golden Scarab (Scarabée d’Or), was the first vehicle that went across the Sahara in 1922. Almost a century later, a group of 160 students and pupils, plus 40 teachers has built a replica in tribute to this significant model.

The rebuilding project started in June 2016. It took the team almost three years to complete and the replica was unveiled last week at the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Paris. Staying true to the original K1 model HP Type B2, the replica has a 1452 cc four-cylinder engine that produces 20hp, with power sending to the rear axle through the 3-speed gearbox. The model will appear next to the original in mid-June in a Citroën 100th anniversary celebration event in Paris. Another appearance will happen on Champs-Elysées on 18 July, followed by driving demonstration on 19-21 July for the for the Gathering of the Century in Le Perche. André Citroën would be proud of this.
