Revisiting The Important Movement
Bauhaus Journal 1926–1931 Facsimile Edition

Several avant-garde styles have shaped the aesthetics of the modern world, the Bauhaus movement certainly is one of them. The Staatliches Bauhaus art school was founded in 1919 in Weimar, Germany, and from then onwards the minimalistic, “form follows function” style has become a solid influence art, design and architecture. One hundred years since its founding, German publisher Lars Müller, in collaboration with Bauhaus-Archiv and Museum für Gestaltung, Berlin, put together a significant piece of art for the iconic movement.

The Bauhaus Journal 1926–1931: Facsimile Edition reproduces 14 issues of the periodical during the period exactly as they were first published. With key voices of the Bauhaus movement such as Josef Albers, Walter Gropius, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, László Moholy-Nagy, Oskar Schlemmer and more all shared their insights as well as fellow students and masters’ latest projects on the journal. It’s difficult to ignore the importance of this historical document – The 14 individual issues of journal are neatly stored inside the transparent slipcase, accompanied by a commentary 128-page booklet featuring an overview of the content, an essay which places the journal in its historical context, and most importantly, English translation of all German texts on the individual journal issues.
