Return of the Dustbin Fairing
Rough Crafts × MV Agusta ‘Ballistic Trident’

As the base for custom-built motorcycles, MV Agusta hasn’t always been an easy brand to handle, but Winston Yeh of renowned builder Rough Crafts in Taiwan was willing to take up the challenge. He chose to makeover a new Brutale 800 RR in his signature dark and menacing style, with the surprising addition of a vintage racing GP design element – the dustbin fairing.

Dustbin fairings were originally banned due to their dangerous tendency to catch side winds and topple the bike, not to mention the heavily compromised steering lock. Yeh saw a way to create a modern version, which turns with the forks and has a slimmer appearance. He designed a 1:1 scale 3D computer model, and then carved a full-size wooden mould for the carbon fibre fairing. Yeh designed it to attach and remove quickly, and together with the windscreen it forms a strong visual line with the top of the tank and the tail section.

Yeh also designed a pair of 17-inch six-spoke wheels built by Wukawa Industry, and Pirelli came on board by donating their Diablo Superbike tires. The 800RR comes with sculptural gold Öhlins FGR 800 forks, and custom-made Beringer brakes. The 12-valve, three-cylinder engine produces 140 hp at 13,100 revs, with exhausts from HP Corse. AEM Factory delivered a custom black and gold rear sprocket to match the bike’s trim.

This incredible MV was recently unveiled at Japan’s renowned custom bike event – the Mooneyes Yokohama show.
