Record Breaking Examples
2007 and 2009 Gumpert Apollo Sport for sale

Historic Gumpert Apollo models, launched before the company changed hands and was renamed Apollo Automobil, have always been popular in the second hand market. Recently, two Apollo Sport examples have been made available for sale, and both have an interesting story to tell on top of the model’s excellent performance.

The first is from 2009, and is the exact vehicle Florian Gruber from Sport Auto used to break the Nurburgring record. This particular two-tone Apollo Sport lapped the Green Hell in 7 minutes and 11.57 seconds on August 13, 2009. It should be remembered that the record was made 9 years ago and the result was truly impressive back then. The sports car features a 691 hp 4.2-litre biturbo V8. Accelerating to 96 km/h (60 mph) only takes 3 second and it tops out at 360 km/h. So far the car has just run 9,320 km, and it is up for sale for €333,000 (US$ 397,000) by Springbok Sportwagen GmbH from Germany.

If you prefer shopping around and comparing, then the 2007 Apollo Sport currently for sale by Mark Donaldson could be a nice alternative. The metallic blue car was driven by Richard Hammond and the Stig for Top Gear in July 2008 and set a new record on their Power Lap Board with a lap time of 1 minute and 17.1 seconds. It also took part in the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed, in fact it was crashed during the race but now it has been completely recommissioned. The parameters of this car is pretty similar to the 2009 example and it is priced at £220,000 (US$ 300,000).
