In the 1940s, Charles and Ray Eames experimented with the moulded plywood technique they developed for the US military. They designed various furniture pieces and also a series of radios for different manufacturers. There was one particular radio design from 1946 that was rejected by its manufacturer as it was just too avant-garde and not ‘normal’. The design has been picked up by VITRA and this Eames radio is finally made into production over 70 years later.
The original radio design with a moulded plywood case is now revived with the same compact shape and austere, but it is now encased with elegant walnut cabinet with a black façade and equipped with modern technology by British manufacturer REVO. The radio is limited to 999 units only.
