Rarer than the actual car
Ferrari 812 Superfast wind tunnel model

RM Sotheby’s is partnering with Ferrari for a significant single marque action this month in celebration of the automaker’s 70th anniversary. Among many rare and luxurious cars, Lot 112 naturally stands out as it is not a full car but a scale 1:2 wind tunnel model of the new Ferrari 812 Superfast.

Behind the 812 Superfast’s speed and dynamics, the car’s aerodynamic design is the result of numerous rounds of tests and improvements. This original 812 Superfast wind tunnel model was handcrafted with carbon fibre and other materials, and was used during different stages of development including finalising the computational fluid dynamics results inside the wind tunnel. The model is kept in its original condition.

The estimate for this model is €280,000 to €320,000, which is signifiantly more than some of the actual Ferraris in the same auction. It is clearly a collector’s item, as similar pieces are rarely available for sale, and would definitely make a great outdoor display.

The auction will take place on September 9 at Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello, Italy.
