Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Italdesign Edition

Roger Dubuis introduced its collaboration timepiece with Italian automotive-industry player Italdesign at this year’s Geneva International Motor Show – the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Italdesign Edition. With just eight pieces worldwide, we got the chance to take a closer look at this precious timepiece.

The limited-edition timepiece takes inspiration from the “Italdesign Automobili Speciali Zerouno”, a supercar produced by the new unit of Italdesign that is capable of 0 – 100 mph acceleration in 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 330 km/h. The new “Italdesign Edition” is based on Roger Dubuis’ Excalibur Spider Single tourbillon watch with a few aesthetic cues to give it a distinctive look. For example, the watch features an Italian flag colour scheme of red, white and green accents, which is also featured throughout the Zerouno body frame.

Specs-wise, the Excalibur Spider Italdesign Edition features a 45mm-wide multi-layer carbon case and DLC-coated titanium caseback which is 13.75mm thick, and water-resistant to 50 metres. The dial’s hour and minute hands have red tips filled with white SuperLuminova; there’s even a tiny Italian flag displayed at 11 o’clock.

The RD505SQ calibre rests near the 7 o’clock position; it’s the same movement found in other Roger Dubuis’ skeleton tourbillons. The hand-wound movement is made up from 179 parts and holds a power reserve of 60 hours. Each unit of the Excalibur Spider Italdesign Edition is embossed with the Poinçon de Genève signifying the finest craftsmanship.
