Pay Tribute To Californian Design
The “California: Designing Freedom” Exhibition

The “California: Designing Freedom” exhibition at The Design Museum in London examines the story of Californian modernism in technology and design in particular, from the sixties onward. The exhibition is divided into five themes; “Go Where You Want”, “See What You Want”, “Say What You Want”, “Make What You Want” and “Join Who You Want”. The curator of this exhibition has said, “Today, we are all Californians”, a statement that has nothing to do with race or nationality, but a “state of mind”. It points out that under the influence of globalisation – specifically in terms of design and technology – the ways and forms of expressing ourselves through social media platforms, the usage of smartphones, all these linkages have made the world more like one big California.

Among the 300 items on display, you will not only see posters, sketches or skateboards, but the Apple iPhone prototype, an original Apple Macintosh produced in 1984 as well as the self-driving Waymo car.
