The Audiovisual Installation ‘AURA’

During the Dutch Design Week just passed, Studio Nick Verstand launched ‘AURA’, an audiovisual installation that inspires viewers to think about cultural values and intimacy regarding privacy. Visitors listen to musical compositions while standing under a light, allowing for the collection of data including heart-rate variability, brainwaves and galvanic skin response by attached biosensors. This data is collated and then given different values of light through intensity, colours and forms and then made visible to other visitors present.

Apart from these fantastic visual effects, ‘AURA’ publicly expresses an individual’s emotional responses and creates a straightforward link to the transformation of these internal emotions into something physical and external and publically acknowledged. When you look at the beautiful lights of ‘AURA’, are you reminded of anything related to the internet?
