New Halo
2018 Ferrari F1 concept by Olcay Tuncay Karabulut

FIA has confirmed that for 2018 onwards, all Formula One cars will be fitted with the Halo cockpit protection system, meaning that the ‘shield’ option was not selected. The introduction of the Halo is aimed at reducing the risk of injury from debris or other objects striking a racer’s head. FIA said in a statement that they have “developed and evaluated a large number of devices over the past five years, and it had become clear that the Halo presents the best overall safety performance.”

Designer Olcay Tuncay Karabulut has created his own version of Scuderia Ferrari’s SF-18 with the new F1 requirements in mind. Karabulut’s Halo design seems thinner than the version on the prototypes released previously, in an effort to improve visibility. The V-shaped support at the top that appeared on previous prototypes is omitted on Karabulut’s design.

The final F1 car specifications from the FIA will be confirmed later this year.
