New Face in the Family
Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe

Submersible watches exude a sense of adventure that men can’t resist, and this Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe by Blancpain is no exception.

Originally presented in 2013 to mark the 60th anniversary of the Fifty Fathoms, the vintage-inspired Bathyscaphe is extending the family’s range with a brand-new 38 mm timepiece attired in abyss blue, a stylish contrast to the military green of the original Bathyscaphe. Blancpain employs LiquidmetalR steel, an alloy known for its deformation resistance and long-term stability for the bezel, while a blue ceramic insert fit with LiquidmetalR hour-markers provides the perfect finishing touch.

Water-resistant to approximately 300 meters, the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe is powered by the Caliber 1150 that sports two series-coupled barrels that ensure a 100-hour power reserve. The caliber is visible through the sapphire crystal case-back enabling admiration of its solid gold oscillating weight, coated in NAC (a platinum alloy) and sculpted to form the raised Blancpain logo in relief.

Additionally, its silicon balance-spring is a relatively recent horological innovation that offers several advantages: low density which reduces weight, greater shock resistance, and an imperviousness to magnetic fields.
