New Envoys of Power
The supercars of Geneva Motor Show

Geneva Motor Show has always been the prime spot for viewing the latest and greatest automotive machines, and 2018 is no different. We have selected some of the most eye catching road-legal and track-only supercars for your viewing pleasure.

Bugatti Chiron Sport

The lighter, more extreme version of the existing Bugatti model, the Chiron Sport offers better handling and faster cornering. The power is the same as the original Chiron at 1,479 hp and delivered from the same 8.0-litre 16-cylinder engine. The car features new lightweight parts, including lighter glass and carbon fibre windshield wipers, making it 39 pounds less than the original. The automaker claims that the Sport version is more agile especially in tight corners, and the shock absorbers are now 10% stiffer. Appearance-wise the new car features four round tailpipes that separate it from the original, and the new Chiron Sport logo can be found inside out.

Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder

Lamborghini has launched the open-top version of its Huracan Performante. The Huracan Performante Spyder features a soft top that can be opened or closed in just 17 seconds when the car is running at a speed of 48 km/h or under. The Spyder features the same 5.2-litre V10 naturally-aspirated engine that produces 631 hp and 600 Nm, driving all four wheels via the seven-speed dual clutch transmission The Spyder is 125 kg heavier than the Coupe, hence it takes slightly longer to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.1 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 9.3 seconds (0.2 and 0.4 slower  respectively), while the top speed remains at 325 km/h.

Rolls-Royce Dawn Aero Cowling

Another open-top has caught our attention. Developed by the Bespoke division of Rolls-Royce, Dawn Aero Cowling sees the 5.29 metre long coupe transformed into a two-seater roadster, while the space for rear passengers are now covered by a new structure. This is mainly an appearance-centric conversion  as the 6.5-litre V12 still produces 571 hp. Featuring two humps made of carbon fibre and aluminium and covered with fabric then leather, all done by hand, the structure also serves as a storage  compartment.

Ferrari 488 Pista

We introduced the 488 Pista last month, and now the show car has been unveiled at Geneva in two shades. The car is dripping in carbon fibre, with much-enhanced aerodynamics developed from lessons learnt in Ferrari’s Formula 1 and 488 GTE programs, while the 3.9-litre V8 engine is more powerful than the 488 GTB’s, generating 711 hp and 770 Nm. 0-100 km/h acceleration only takes 2.85 seconds and it tops out at over 340 km/h.

McLaren Senna GTR Concept

We saw the carbon fibre bespoke version last week, but McLaren is surprising us with a GTR version of the controversial Senna. While the track-only car has the word “concept” in its name, the automaker has confirmed that it will produce 75 examples of the monster. The 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 will be tuned to produce around 815 hp and will of course sprint faster than the road going version in straight line. It features a larger front splitter, active front aero blades and more to generate more downforce.

Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro

The performance of the original Valkyrie is already pretty extraordinary, but the engineers at Aston Martin have gone even further and produced a track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro. The body is broader and bristling with extra aero components in order to produce much higher downforce. The hybrid 6.5-litre V12 powertrain is now set to develop over 1100 bhp and offers the race car a top speed of 362 km/h. The automaker has not revealed further spec figures on the Valkyrie AMR Pro, but we do know that it is limited to 25 examples only.

Techrules Ren RS

Chinese company Techrules unveiled the Ren RS, a single-seat, track-only version their supercar Ren, launched last year. Designed by Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro in Turin, the Ren RS is powered by a patented micro-turbine hybrid configuration similar to what Jaguar tried with the C-X75 concept. Two electric motors can be found at the front and another four at the rear. Combined, the powertrain will produce approximately 1,305 hp and 2,340 Nm of torque. 0 to 100 km/h is completed in 3.0 seconds before reaching a top speed of 330 km/h.
