New Balance has released a pack of limited editions of its Made in UK sneakers to celebrate the year of the rooster.

The “Yard Park” pack pays tribute to William J. Riley, the founder of the American sports footwear manufacturer, who named the brand “New Balance” from observations of chickens in his yard and the realisation that a chicken’s three clawed foot resulted in naturally perfect balance. The discovery led him to design sports shoes with arch supports mimicking a chicken’s three support points to provide greater stability and comfort. He paid tribute to that inspiration by keeping a chicken foot on his office desk.

The roster for the “Yard Park” pack includes EPIC TR, 991.5, 576, 577 and 1500, each of them manufactured in the Flimby factory in the UK and featuring distinctive colour and material combinations, such as premium suede, mesh and genuine leather.
