Tarform Raye Electric Waterjet

New York-based startup Tarform made an impressive debut with the Luna all-electric motorcycle, which we introduced back in 2018 when it was still in its concept stage. Alongside fulfilling deliveries of the latest version of bespoke Luna, Tarform has also managed to shape the design of an all-electric watercraft named the ‘Raye’.

The lightweight electric jet ski is inspired by the movements and body structure of the manta ray — the shape of the Raye is clearly a representation of biomorphic design. Adhering to the company’s eco ethos, the bodywork of the watercraft will be built using recycled carbon fibre or Tarform’s proprietary plant-based composite. The latter is made out of flaxseed weave, biobased resin, and algae carbon as a pigment, and has already been used on one of the panels on the Luna.

The Raye will have a top speed of around 80 km/h, with instant torque and acceleration via electric waterjet propulsion. Tarform is prepared to develop two different power and range configurations with a power output from 70 to 120 hp and a range of 1 to 2 hours. Features seen on the Luna, including over-the-air updates, machine learning, and sensor technology, will be adapted to the watercraft for a seamless and connected experience.

No timeline has been set for the release of Raye as it is still in its conceptual and design stage, but Tarform does mention a starting price of US$68,000.
