After months of speculation, it has been confirmed that Fernando Alonso will continue to race with McLaren for the  2018 Formula 1 season.

Alonso seems happy to be racing with the Woking squad once again. “McLaren has the technical resource and financial strength to be able to very quickly win races and world championships in F1,” he said. “Although the last few years have not been easy, we have never forgotten how to win, and I believe we can achieve that again soon.”

This season has not been great for the two-time world champion Spaniard. So far he has failed to better fifth place in the Honda-powered race car, leading to speculations that he may leave the team or even Formula 1. For next season McLaren will use Renault engines, which should hopefully see increased reliability. It is also reported that Alonso’s contract is multi-year and flexible for him to compete in additional racing as long as it does not compromise his efforts in Formula 1.
