Teenage Engineering, the Swedish brand known for blending sleek design with innovative technology in its music-related electronic products, has introduced the OP-XY, a groundbreaking portable sequencer, synthesiser, and sampler. Compact and versatile, the OP-XY is a new addition to the brand’s legacy of creating tools that inspire creativity on the go.

With a sleek black exterior, the OP-XY combines form and function in a stunning device, perfect for creators who also pay attention to aesthetics, thanks to its stylish button layout in a black-to-white gradient. The music equipment offers eight synth engines, a drum sampler, and a multi-sampler, supporting 24-voice multitimbral sound, to name a few of its range of features. There is also a high-resolution display that shows hands-on graphics in grayscale, while red is used to indicate recording and parameter locks. The 16-track, 64-step sequencer allows for complex layering and sequencing, with the ability to run tracks at different speeds and lengths to unlock polyrhythms. Highlights include the unique “brain” intelligent transposer, which generates chord progressions for different sounds every time.

Connectivity is well supported, like other music machines in Teenage Engineering’s OP series. It includes a USB-C port for audio and MIDI hosting, a multi-out jack for CV, MIDI, audio, and sync, as well as dedicated audio-in and out ports. Bluetooth LE MIDI ensures seamless integration with modern setups, while the built-in speaker and microphone make the OP-XY capable of being a standalone, portable machine with up to 16 hours of battery life.
