Minimalistic Structure
Bookchair by Sou Fujimoto

Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto is famous for his delicate structures and permeable enclosures. His works are more of individual houses instead of high rises, with selected works including temporary structures such as Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London and Naoshima Pavilion in Kagawa.

He recently designed the Bookchair for Italian furniture house Alias, once again using his signature style. The white bookcase is made of wooden fibre panels and is generally minimalistic in design, but with an element shaped like a chair skilfully fit inside the main portion. The chair is also a little bookshelf on its own and can be easily pulled out for reading. “Bookchair comes to life through the aggregation of a new element, the chair within the bookcase, based on a concept that aims to reflect the basic, fundamental relationship between a book and its reader”, Fujimoto explained on his design. Indeed modern life is full of distractions, and having such a clean-look bookcase in the study would definitely help us focus on its contents.
