Modena Automobili was founded in 2022 with the goal of building restomod versions of classic models. The company’s debut, Project MA-01, brings the iconic Maserati Biturbo Shamal into the present day.
Launched in 1989, the Biturbo Shamal, with its muscular, aggressive exterior and distinctive rear wheel arches designed by Marcello Gandini, has become a modern classic. This two-door GT coupé was powered by a 3,217 cc twin-turbocharged V8 engine, delivering 322 hp at 6,000 rpm, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. Produced between 1990 and 1995, only 369 Shamals were made.
A standout feature of Modena Automobili’s Project MA-01 restomod is its commitment to preserving the “Made in Modena” heritage. Reinterpreting the Shamal’s iconic design with sharper aesthetics, the body is crafted from a mix of steel and carbon fibre, featuring a widened track and larger wheels. The engine has been upgraded to a powerful V6 twin-turbo derived from the Ghibli S, delivering 500 hp.
The front has been redesigned with reworked LED headlights set in exposed carbon fibre casings, enlarged air intakes, and an aerodynamic splitter, all contributing to improved downforce and cooling. At the rear, a squared spoiler, new taillights divided by a black band with the Shamal logo, and a large diffuser with dual exhausts continue the bold look of the original.
Modena Automobili will produce only 33 examples of Project MA-01, with a starting price of €600,000.
