Apollo 11 Flight Plan

Six months ago, we first reported the re-issue of the Apollo 11 Flight Plan, supported by crowdfunding and initiated by the American publisher Reproduction IO. Last month we finally received the manual and we’re offering some photos for our readers sharing the same interest in NASA.

Reproduction IO designed five different covers for the Apollo 11 Flight Plan reprint, and the version we have on hand is the original 1969 cover. The eagle illustration on the hard sleeve represents the logo of the Apollo 11 mission, while underneath it is the title “Apollo 11 Flight Plan” in foil stamping. When taking the manual out from the sleeve, one immediately notices the date “July 1, 1969” printed in large type on the orange manual cover, just as if you were holding the original copy used by NASA mission staff.

The font and image quality of the Reproduction IO re-issued version is far superior to the conventional digital format. The refined fonts, colours and kerning are immediately noticeable as are the recreation of the icons, tables, etc. in vector format. The manual employs reinforced paper for increased durability while reading and flipping through pages, thus becoming more worthy as a collectable item. However, no matter how valuable the manual is, it can’t compare to the fun of reading the minutia of the Apollo 11 flight plan remarks such as precise event timing and precautions. With engrossing details such as these, the Apollo 11 Flight Plan reprint produces a tangible sense of immersion into the historic first mission to the Moon.
