1985 Modena GT Sypder California

What would you do if you had to destroy something extremely precious and rare for creating a dramatic and appealing scene for a movie? One of the options is to make a knock-off. This is what director John Hughes did in 1980s for his movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. In this teen comedy, a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California was destroyed by the protagonist (played by Matthew Broderick), and three examples of Modena GT Spyder California were created to take up the role of the classic 250 GT.

Plenty of Ferrari-style elements were incorporated into the replica by Modena Design, including a custom fibreglass body, windshield, fender vents, grille and more. The car is powered by a 5.0-litre V-8 engine and even the black crinkle-finish valve covers with horizontal lines look familiar. This particular Chassis No. 0003 was recently updated by original builder Neil Glassmoyer, the president of Modena Design and is now ready to meet its new owner via Mecum
