Lightweight And Hand-built
Küschall Superstar wheelchair

Switzerland-based company Küschall has developed what they claimed to be the lightest wheelchair. The company was founded in 1978 and has been creating wheelchair with new innovations and materials. For the new Küschall Superstar wheelchair, not only it is extremely lightweight being made from aerospace material graphene, lead designer Andre Fangueiro also partnered with a Formula 1 manufacture to secure unprecedented and driving performance for the wheelchair.

Judging from the appearance alone, the wheelchair is far from the stereotype. The X-shape geometry provides an increase in performance and agility. Each unit of Superstar would be bespoke and hand-built, the geometry, tube sizing and seat cushion are all tailor-made according to each user’s body shape and condition, thus maximising the propelling performance. Using graphene allows the frame weighing less than 1.5 kg, which is 30% lighter and 20% stronger compared to a carbon wheelchair. The lightweight and bespoke design aims to change the fact that 50-70% of wheelchair users end up with upper extremity injuries after 10-15 years.
