Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean “Big Blue”

For those growing up in the Eighties, hearing the term “Big Blue” may bring recollections of the film The Big Blue directed by Luc Besson in 1988, which illustrates the relationship between the ocean and humans. For those who are familiar with Omega watches, you probably already know that this is the name of Omega’s latest ceramic watch following Dark Side of the Moon, White Side of the Moon and Grey Side of the Moon.

“Big Blue” is the latest model from the Seamaster Planet Ocean collection and for the first time it has the entire case as well as the bezel, caseback and foldover clasp of the strap made from blue ceramic. The unidirectional bezel features a diving scale with Liquidmetal while a blend of orange rubber and ceramic covers the first 15 minutes. The watch is water-resistant to 600 metres and has a helium escape valve, making sure it is a professional diver’s watch suitable for deep sea saturation diving.

The Planet Ocean “Big Blue” is driven by the in-house Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 8906 and is able to withstand magnetic forces of up to 15,000 gauss. For achieving the Master Chronometer certification, which is of an even higher standard than the COSC certification, it has passed the eight specific tests set by METAS (The Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology). A 4-year warranty is offered for this watch and it just shows Omega’s confidence in its quality.
