2015 Mexican Grand Prix

Overview

Nico Rosberg beat Lewis Hamilton to pole position. Having been pushed off course by teammate Hamilton at the last two Grands Prix, Rosberg suggested that he would not give way this time. Either he would come out of the first turn in first place, our he and Hamilton would be crawling out of the remains of a monumental coming together; there would be no Plan B.

Fortunately, Rosberg was able to get the jump on Hamilton at the start, and then protect the inside line into Turn 1. From then on he was simply untouchable and went on to win his fourth victory of 2015. Hamilton spent his race in Rosberg’s turbulent air and couldn’t close on his teammate. Behind the Mercedes duo, third place qualifier Sebastian Vettel’s Ferrari lost a position to Daniil Kvyat’s Red Bull and then puncture his tire after contact with Daniel Ricciardo. Although he returned with fresh rubber, Vettel would never be a factor in the race.

Valtteri Bottas survived the collision with Kimi Raikkonen, that broke the Ferrari driver’s right-rear suspension at Turn 5 on lap 22, to finish third. Kvyat doggedly clung to fourth place to beat his Red Bull teammate, Ricciardo, who outpaced of the Felipe Massa’s second Williams, who finished sixth. Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg lead home his teammate, and local hero, Sergio Perez. Max Verstappen was ninth for Toro Rosso and Romain Grosjean just held off his Lotus teammate, Pastor Maldonado, to score the final point with tenth.
