Italian artist Peeta has transformed a low-rise residential building in Mannheim, Germany into an optical illusion mural for the 2019 Stadt.Wand.Kunst mural project.
Peeta, real name Manuel Di Rita, is famous for combining elements of graffiti and abstract art, playing around with light and shadow perfectly for his work. From three-dimensional lettering to murals on buildings in different cities, he creates fantasy-like pieces that are not limited by their physical form.
Stadt.Wand.Kunst project invites street artists to create murals in Mannheim every summer. “I loved this building since the beginning and I tried my best to combine multidisciplinary skills to transform it while keeping its original taste,” wrote Peeta on Instagram on the project .From afar, it appears that building has curvy staircases and physical ornaments on the facade, but get closer you’d realise it’s the combination of colours, straight lines and curves forming this M.C. Escher-like mural.
