NASA’s Apollo 17 mission, the sixth and final crewed lunar landing of the Apollo program, took place in 1972. Since then, no human has set foot on the Moon, yet our fascination with space, particularly lunar terrain vehicles, has endured. Reflecting this ongoing interest, LEGO recently released a detailed NASA Apollo Lunar Roving Vehicle model, which has been well received.

Part of the Technic line and designed for adults, this 1,913-piece set is based on the lunar rover used in the Apollo 17 mission. It boasts various features, including seats, steering, suspension, and scientific tools. Once assembled, the model stands over 14 cm high, 38 cm long, and 25 cm wide, with three attachable equipment sets. Authentic details such as a battery pack, heating and cooling systems, a communications unit with a TV camera and antennae, and tools like a shovel and drill are meticulously recreated. The set also includes the Traverse Gravimeter Experiment and a LEGO version of Big Muley, the largest rock sample brought back by the Apollo program, all faithfully adhering to historical accuracy.

The inclusion of information plaques for both the rover and the equipment sets elevates this model from a mere display piece to an educational tool, offering insights into the Apollo mission alongside the fun of building it.
