Invisible Keyboard
The Tap Strap

A repeated physical action or process leads to subconsciously performed habits. For example, one will remember the placement of the keys on the keyboard after typing for a long time. Before long, it becomes easy to type accurately without having to take a single look at the keyboard.

The Tap Strap” is a wearable keyboard to makes even a laser projected keyboard seem like ancient science. This smart-textile strap is worn on the fingers, allowing the analysis of up to 31 typing gestures. These gestures become alphabetical and numerical inputs, with an accuracy level of 99%. Tap Strap supports Bluetooth and connects to smartphones, tablets, computers, VR or other devices. Once the Tap Strap user has had their inputs analyzed, they can type by just tapping their fingers on any flat surface twice. Connecting two Tap Straps to one device allows inputs from both hands simultaneously.

Apart from bringing convenience to the everyday life, I particularly like how Tap Strap encourages a variety of new habits. One can single-handedly start typing as they read the newspaper and drinking their coffee, and one can quietly type reply messages under the table during a meeting. Furthermore, one can even transform their body into a keyboard while lying in bed. This concept, which seemed just a movie fantasy, has now become a real-life tool. It’s not hard to imagine Tap Strap becoming a near-future lifestyle necessity. As a highly anticipated product, early test phase renderings reveal a surprisingly dull appearance, but Tap Strap’s final form is sure to find a more aesthetic grace for its expected release at the end of this year.
