We’re fairly used to seeing fabulous automobiles being converted into a LEGO or LEGO Technic version, but how about a role reversal: turning a LEGO Technic concept into a life size replica? This is the case for the BMW Hover Ride Design Concept.

The hover bike concept began with the Lego Technic BMW R 1200 GS Adventure kit released earlier this year. The kit comprises 603 parts for creating the powerful motorcycle, but the two companies decided something more could be achieved from the same kit. As Alexander Buckan, Head of BMW Motorrad Vehicle Design said, “It was a great idea and a superb creative challenge to develop a fictitious model from the parts of the LEGO Technic BMW R 1200 GS Adventure set. Our concept not only incorporates the BMW Motorrad design DNA with typical elements such as the boxer engine and the characteristic GS silhouette, it also draws on the LEGO Technic stylistic idiom.”

The LEGO Technic team built the hover concept using the same bricks, while the BMW team slightly altered numerous components of the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, such as the front-wheel rim modified to form a propeller. The life-size replica is on display at LEGO World in Copenhagen before moving over to the BMW Welt in Munich later this year.
