Porsche’s motorsport story has been told many times, but Artifacts: Porsche Motorsport offers a rare chance to see it through intimacy, craft, and physical presence. Designed and published by ERA Media, this 7.7 kg coffee table book delivers a perspective normally reserved for those wandering the vaults of Weissach and Flacht.
Spanning 550 pages and more than 250 hand-selected objects, Artifacts is less a chronological history and more a tactile exploration of the marque’s competitive spirit. Photographer and lead creative Thomas Walk spent months inside Porsche’s restricted storage facilities documenting the components, tools, prototypes, and artefacts that shaped decades of racing dominance. Through dramatic lighting and ultra-high-resolution imagery, each item appears almost sculptural, revealing patina, wear marks, and Raceborn textures.
The book itself is a fitting object of Stuttgart. Created with House Industries founder Andy Cruz, it introduces two custom typefaces inspired by elements within Porsche’s archive. An embossed red vinyl cover echoes the ledger books once used to catalogue racing parts in the 1960s, while the motorsport-inspired belt buckle clasp turns the unboxing into a small ceremony.
Housed in a collector’s box, Artifacts: Porsche Motorsport feels like a museum you can place on your table. It’s available to pre-order now from ERA Media, with shipping expected on 4 December.
