Infused With Japanese Elements
Nissan Xmotion Concept

Another Japanese automaker has unveiled its latest concept car at the Detroit Motor Show. Xmotion, pronounced as “Cross Motion”, is a compact SUV concept from Nissan that offers Japanese DNA mixed with connectivity and autonomous technologies.

The exterior features a simple silhouette with unique U-shaped highlights on the side in warm silver. Each 21-inch wheel is integrated with an interlocking pattern, and there are also a  retractable “rooftop box” and taillights inspired by Japanese graphics.

Xmotion has a “4+2″ interior layout that fits 6 people. The interior design is inspired by Japanese landscapes. Imagine there is a river on the floor, the seats are the floating boats and the elongated centre console, built with Japanese wood joinery technique “kanawa tsugi”, is a bridge over the river. The instrument panel design is a modern interpretation of traditional “kigumi” wood joinery and features 5 digital screens. There are two more screens on board — a digital room mirror in the ceiling and the centre console display. The headrest design is inspired by the “kumiko” woodwork decorative technique, while all the Japanese lattice patterns and gradations in the interior connect different colours and textures.

Nissan mentions the displays and infotainment system can be controlled by gestures and eye movements. Together with the voice command system, it helps drivers to stay focused on the road.
