Improve Your Weekend
Toyota FT-4X Concept

The younger generation of moneymakers are as driven as their parents but are also more conscious of wellness and work-life balance; hiking and camping seem to be on everyone’s agenda for the weekend these days. Toyota is tapping into that trend and has revealed the FT-4X concept at theNew York Auto Show, targeting millennial-aged professionals who work in the city and feel the urge to get away during the weekend.

Short for “Future Toyota-Four-wheel-drive Crossover”,  the FT-4X is designed by Toyota’s Calty Design Research in California and has a “rugged charm” persona, as the automaker has described it. The SUV runs wide overfenders and beefy tyres, making it suitable for a variety of surfaces – roads or otherwise. The rear -multi-hatch can be open horizontally and vertically, and inside you will find two storage boxes – one for warm items like hot soup and other one for cold goods like ice packs. A storable North Face sleeping bag fits between the front passenger seats and doubles as an armrest. There is also secure storage for extra baggage, a ceiling-mounted removable flashlight, USB and power outlets and other outdoor friendly items that you might require if you were to head out into the wilderness straight after work.

Whether the FT-4X will go into production is unknown, but hopefully some of the quirky gadgets on the concept will find their way into other Toyota models in the near future.
