Imaginative G-Class Art Piece
Mercedes-Benz and Moncler Project Mondo G

Most of us are familiar with the silhouette of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class — a timeless, angular design with utilitarian lines aimed at function over form. The automaker recently teamed up with Moncler to create a unique art piece, Project Mondo G, which merges the G-Class with the fashion brand’s distinctive design codes.

The art piece made its debut at the Moncler “The Art of Genius” show during London Fashion Week, along with an exceptional line-up of collaborators including Pharrell Williams, ROC NATION by Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Adidas, FRGMT, and more.

As Moncler’s first automotive partnership, Project Mondo G takes the boxy shape of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and combines it with the soft, flowing lines of Moncler’s signature puffer jackets. The body of the wagon has a patina finish, and the top part of the car and the wheels are covered in shiny materials that mimic the forms seen in puffer jackets. There is also a huge zipper running over the roof in case anyone was in any doubt as to the piece’s inspiration. The 2.5-tonne art piece is a similar size to the real deal G-Class, measuring 4.6m in length, 2.8m in height, 3.4m in width.

Project Mondo G also appears in the co-branded “The Art of Imagination” campaign. Under the lens of director and photographer Thibaut Grevet, models wearing Moncler pieces appear to be defying gravity as they pose with the art piece in an otherworldly winter landscape. Although Project Mondo G will not be available for sale, it certainly offers an interesting and imaginative interpretation of this iconic practical vehicle.
