Hybrid Meets High Performance
Audi RS 5 Hybrid

Audi has entered a new chapter with the latest RS 5, marking one of the biggest shifts yet for the model. The new RS 5 introduces the first plug-in hybrid powertrain ever fitted to an RS model, signalling a new era for Audi’s performance division while promising that electrification will enhance the RS experience.

The RS 5 leaves little doubt about its intent. Both front and rear tracks are roughly 90 mm wider than those of the standard A5, creating a planted and muscular stance. A deep Singleframe grille with a honeycomb pattern dominates the nose, framed by darkened Matrix LED headlights featuring a checkered-flag daytime running light signature. Flared arches, large wheels with 20- or 21-inch tyres, and a pronounced rear diffuser reinforce the car’s aggressive presence, while the trademark oval RS exhaust finishers complete the purposeful look.

Power comes from an updated 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 producing 503 hp. The combustion engine works alongside a 130 kW electric motor integrated within a hybridised eight-speed transmission. Together, they deliver a combined system output of 630 hp and 824 Nm of torque.

Hybrid technology inevitably brings additional mass. The RS 5 Avant carries a weight of 2,370 kg, while the RS 5 Sedan weighs 2,355 kg. This sounds heavy, and it is, but the performance remains firmly in RS territory. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h takes just 3.6 seconds, while top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. Models equipped with the optional Audi Sport package raise that figure to 285 km/h.

A completely new quattro drivetrain sits at the centre of the package. Known as Dynamic Torque Control, it introduces electromechanical torque vectoring at the rear axle for the first time in a production Audi. A new rear transaxle shifts torque between the rear wheels in milliseconds, while the centre differential remains partially preloaded to manage power distribution between the axles.

Inside, the cabin continues the blend of performance and usability expected of an RS model. A 14.5-inch MMI touch display integrates Audi’s driving experience interface, and is capable of analysing routes and recording sector times during track use.

Production takes place in Neckarsulm, Germany. European order books open in the first quarter of 2026, with first customer deliveries expected in summer 2026. The model is expected to reach the US market in 2027.
