Hush Hush Hypercar
Mercedes-AMG R50

While the Aston Martin – Red Bull AM-RB 001 was anticipated, rumours hint Mercedes is building a new AMG hypercar as a potential competitor. The information suggests this new AMG Mercedes’ performance levels might cause Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1 engineers some sleepless nights.

It is said the AMG hybrid powertrain’s two electric motors, each generating 150hp for the two front wheels, will team with a 2.0-litre V-4 turbocharged engine producing a stunning 1,000hp, to develop a total of 1,300hp. With the same power-to-weight target as the AM-RB 001 (one horsepower per kilogram), the car would very likely to be restricted to a weight of 1,300 kg, achieved through an advanced carbon fibre monocoque and various alloy suspension elements.

The two-seat hypercar would borrow advanced aerodynamic configurations from Mercedes’ F1 effort and boast rear-wheel steering as well as a new adaptive suspension system to independently control each wheel. Rumours centre around the car’s appearance next year in celebration of AMG’s 50th anniversary. Should that be the case, this Golden Anniversary present will produce remarkable changes in the marketplace and a landslide of orders from well-heeled car enthusiasts.
