Legendary racing driver Ayrton Senna passed away after crashing at the San Marino Grand Prix on May 1, 1994. Thirty years after his tragic death, the McLaren F1 team is paying tribute to their most successful driver by wrapping the current MCL38 race car in a Senna-themed livery for the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix this weekend.

Senna raced for McLaren from 1988 to 1993, during which he won 35 Formula 1 races, three Drivers’ Championships, and four Constructors’ Championships. The tribute livery’s unveiling location is also thoughtfully chosen, as the Brazilian driver won six times in Monaco, including five consecutive wins between 1989 and 1993.

The one-off livery is presented in collaboration with Senna Brand and McLaren’s partner OKX, featuring a vibrant yellow, green, and blue colourway inspired by Senna’s iconic helmet. Both McLaren drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, will wear bespoke overalls, and the team will also don Senna-inspired kits for the weekend. A special range of Senna x Monaco merchandise, featuring the same vivid colours and the McLaren team livery from his era, will be available online for fans to celebrate his legacy.

Additionally, McLaren has created a one-off version of the McLaren Senna road car. Named Senna Sempre, which means “Senna Forever” in Portuguese, it is specially hand-painted by McLaren Special Operations using the same yellow, green, and blue colour scheme, with dot matrix portraits of Ayrton and further references skillfully applied.
