Hidden Genius
‘Marcello Gandini – Genio Nascosto’ exhibition

Italian automotive designer Marcello Gandini may not be a household name, but his stunning creations such as the Lancia Stratos and various Lamborghinis are appreciated by many throughout the decades, and it is not exaggerating to describe him as one of the most significant car designers of the 20th century. The Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile in Turin is going to host an exhibition dedicated to this low-key mastermind.

Gandini was the chief designer of Bertone from 1966 to 1980. During that period we saw the birth of many iconic, sharp and wedge-shaped concepts and production cars of the time, including Lamborghini Miura and Countach, Stratos Zero, Fiat X1-9 and Ferrari Dino 308 GT4.

Titled ‘Marcello Gandini – Genio Nascosto’ (which means hidden genius in Italian), the exhibition will showcase some of these remarkable vehicles, including the Stratos Zero once shown at the Turin Motor Show in 1970, Lamborghini Marzal prototypes, Alfa Romeo Montreal 1967 and Alfa Romeo Carabo. Gandini’s work in the later stage of his career such as drawings of independently designed motorcycles, helicopters, and factories can also be found. Additionally, original documents, objects and films that present the history and creations of Gandini complete the story of this remarkable creator.

‘Marcello Gandini – Genio Nascosto’ will run from 24 January to 26 May.
