Guerilla Art Stall
Banksy crashes Venice Biennale

The Venice Biennale is one of most historical and significant art events in the world. This year the event will be held on 11 May and runs through to 24 November. However, one global renowned mysterious artist has been left out from the beginning from his rise to fame. Banksy is who we are talking about , and the street artist took to Instagram to share a video of his uninvited experience in the city during Venice Biennale.

“Setting out my stall at the Venice Biennale,” reads the Instagram post accompanying the one-minute video. “Despite being the largest and most prestigious art event in the world, for some reason I’ve never been invited.”

The video captures a man, whose face is obscured throughout the video and could be the artist himself, setting up a street stall near St Mark’s Square in Venice. The nine oil paintings on the stall forms a montage of a giant cruise ship, surround by row of gondolas. There is a sign simply called “Venice in Oil” which could be the title of the project. As passersby gather commenting on the work, police officers quickly ask the owner to take down the unlicensed stall.

The artist could have been making a statement on tourism in the city, with cruise ships and the amount of visitors stressing over the infrastructure and daily life of the locals.
