Gotham’s Gonzo Ride
Batpod goes for auction

Aching to fulfil your Batman fantasy? Looking for a singular iconic ride? An opportunity has come knocking. The Batpod featured in The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises will go to auction at the end of September. The gonzo motorbike was conceived by director Christopher Nolan and production designer Nathan Crowley and built by special-effects genius Chris Corbould as an alternative to Batman’s Tumbler vehicle that could more easily sprint through the narrow streets of Gotham City.

The unconventional Batpod was designed to ride in the prone position and has the exhaust system integrated into the frame. The custom-made chassis boasts 31″ Hoosier racing tyres and a Honda 750 engine. Fibreglass body panels surround the metallic grey engine and handlebars and unique elements like the plastic cannon barrels and a laser targeting unit above the right-hand grip. While used for both filming and promotions, the vehicle will be sold in non-functional ‘rolling only’ condition, but with fresh fluids, new battery, fuel tank and custom throttle controls, you’ll be able to reignite the storming machine.

The estimated price is £60,000 to £80,000, which is reasonable for such a one-of-a-kind item. Prop Store has begun taking pre-bids on their website. You’ll be able to bid live on September 27th.
