Getting Fit And Smart
Fitbit Ionic and Flyer

Preparing for a marathon can be a long and arduous journey (pun intended). Two newly launched items from Fitbit could make those training sessions just that little bit easier.

While we have previously covered the Fitbit Ionic when it was first announced, after viewing the actual product in person we believe it deserves another mention. Fitbit states that all its previous watches are fitness trackers (even though the public seems to consider them smartwatches), in the company’s view Ionic is its first proper smartwatch. The frame is made of lightweight aerograde 6,000 series aluminium and the screen is made of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for ensured durability.

The Ionic has a battery life of up to 5 days. The detailed activity statistics (tracked every minute) can be stored in the watch for 7 days, while the daily statistics are kept for 30 days, meaning the user does not have to synchronise the data onto the app too frequently. A built-in NFC chip allows the watch to be used for payment via Fitbit Pay, supporting Visa and Mastercard. While most smartwatches can only synchronise and display messages in English, the Ionic supports numerous languages without any problem. The 2.5GB capacity is good for storing 300 plus songs when you don’t have connection to stream.

The Ionic can easily be paired with the Fitbit Flyer –the company’s wireless headphones designed for workouts. The headphones feature all the essentials such as being sweat-proof, offering secure and comfortable fit with wings and fins and interchangeable ear tips, music and call controls via the 3-button control box and so on. The Flyer is compatible with Siri, Cortana & Google Assistant and its dual microphone suppresses external noise for high-quality calls. The earphones can connect to two Bluetooth devices at the same time, so that the user can switch from hearing music from one device to answering a call on the phone. Its battery offers 6 hours of playtime and a 15-minute charge provides an hour of playtime.
