Furniture with a view
Daybeds by Muller van Severen

The experimental project “Solo House” by Belgium architecture studio OFFICE KGDVS is scheduled for completion at the end of this year. Surrounded by mountains and forests, the circular and transparent building is situated right in nature. Featuring an actual lake as its centerpiece, visitors can enjoy the view from any location inside of the ring-shape house. Muller van Severen was invited to design furniture for this unique house, which is how their collection “wire s#” came about.

Several years ago, photographer Fien Muller and artist Hannes Van Severen created the husband-and-wife design duo, Muller van Severen. Specialising in furniture design, they create interesting pieces out of different forms and simple lines. They particularly emphasise the user experience.

This set of lounge chairs is made with metal mesh material, making them relatively lightweight and creating a natural wobble. “They look like a curled up mattress or a sheet of paper, waiting for someone to lie down,” said the two. Offering a strong penetrating visual effect, they are a perfect match for the spirit of the house.

“We wanted to accentuate the openness of the place. You can see through the object but still grasp the architecture. Transparency makes the objects present and absent at the same time.” With nature being so close, it will be difficult to miss such beauty.

Muller van Severen have grouped both the chair’s initial research phase prototypes with the final product for an exhibition, now happening at the Valerie Traan Gallery in Antwerp.
