We all understand how wonderful the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa is. Its beautiful silhouette and glorious endurance racing history, with victories including the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the late 1950s, have made it an enduring legend. Swiss-born artist Fabian Oefner has found a truly unique way to appreciate this automotive icon, transforming it into what he calls a “spatial book.”
The spatial book is a creative sculptural concept that Oefner has explored before. For the Ferrari 250 TR project, a miniature aluminium model of the car was first placed inside a clear container, which he then filled with liquid resin. Once the resin hardened, it encapsulated the model in a glass-like block. Oefner then carefully sliced through the solid resin, revealing cross-sections of the car embedded within each layer.
After cutting, the slices were meticulously reassembled, as though creating the pages of a book. Each transparent layer captures a frozen moment of the car’s form, turning the Testa Rossa into a three-dimensional story that can be read slice by slice.
The finished “book” is bound in deep red leather, a colour that recalls classic Ferrari racing liveries and interiors. Embossed with the words Ferrari 250 TR and Fabian Oefner, it stands as a seamless fusion of art, engineering, and craftsmanship, serving as a poetic and lasting tribute to one of Ferrari’s most celebrated creations.
