French Future
Bugatti Conceptual F1 Car by Sean Bull

British industrial designer Sean Bull has produced a conceptual Bugatti race car for the 2020 F1 season, and it’s called the 101P.

The spectacular chassis, sporting the appropriate French Blue livery, features aero surfaces inspired by the Bugatti 100P Plane. A 360-degree scanner and augmented reality camera are added to the chassis to offer a new visual experience for viewers as well as feedback for engineers. Further, additional aerodynamic surfaces clean up airflow around to the diffuser, with ground effect skirts modified to comply with FIA rules.

Unlike other conceptual race car designers, Sean Bull also shares his thoughts on potential powertrains that would best suit the 101P. Seeing that F1 has had significant engine regulation changes in 2017 with more expected in 2020, Sean Bull thinks the F1 Bugatti could use the “Tesla Turbine”. This design involves a set of flat disks with nozzles that apply a moving fluid to the edge of the disk, using the principle of centripetal motion, and reportedly operates at up to 95% efficiency. Because of this, exhaust vents are also added to the chassis to assist the heating evacuation requirements of the turbine.
