Four-Wheel Tricycle
Groupe PSA EU-LIVE concept

Groupe PSA, the owner of Peugeot and Citroen among others, has launched the EU-LIVE (Efficient Urban Light Vehicle) concept, a machine that sits somewhere between the two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles. The concept is part of the research of the EU-LIVE European consortium that consists of 12 companies, with Groupe PSA being the only automaker.

The EU-LIVE concept has four wheels, but is based on an architecture similar to a tricycle and features a tilting mechanism using hydraulic components and hydropneumatic suspension for optimised handling. The plug-in hybrid electric vehicle uses two rear electric in-wheel motors that can push it up to 70 km/h. For faster speeds, between 70 km/h to 130 km/h, the concept switches to a Peugeot 42-hp single-cylinder petrol engine. The light vehicle has a total range of 300 km.

The vehicle is handy in size at just 2.4 m long and 0.85 m wide and its rotating doors make parking less of a hassle. Even though it is styled like a scooter, the concept is fully enclosed with a heated cabin, seatbelt and an airbag, meaning protective gear such as a helmet is not required.
