For the Track Enthusiasts
Ford GT Competition Series

Ford won the Rolex 24 at Daytona last month and to celebrate, the automaker launched the Ford GT Competition Series back at Daytona last weekend. The selling point of the limited edition is the car’s innovative lightweight and aerodynamic design.

Much work has gone into trimming down the new car’s weight. For example, a Perspex acrylic engine cover with a manual latch and carbon fibre prop rod reduces crucial weight near the roof, helping to lower the centre of gravity. The Gorilla glass is also thinner and lighter than on other models. Anything that is not essential to performance has to go, including air conditioning, radio and speakers, stowage bins and cupholders, while many other parts, like the wheels, have been substituted for carbon fibre replacements.

The track-focused body design is matched with a gloss carbon fibre stripe and exposed lower body trim. More carbon fibre can be found in the interior, specifically on the console and door sills, while Alcantara is used on the seats, instrument panel and headlining.

The Competition Series is available in six colours: black, white, silver, blue, grey and yellow. The car is destined only for the North America market, though, interestingly, it will be available for as long as the GT is in production.
