Flying Here From 1920s
Lazzarini Design Hover Coupe Concept

Rome’s Lazzarini Design Studio has combined a futuristic aesthetic approach with the classic Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8, a luxury Italian car produced between 1919 to 1924, to create the Hover Coupe flying concept.

The coachbuilder, led by director Pierpaolo Lazzarini, has used four turbine engines similar to those found on airplanes but in smaller scale, to create this 4.5-metre long flying car. The lightweight concept is designed to follow the soft lines of the Tipo 8 and is crafted using carbon fibre. No wonder it can achieve an estimated top speed, hypothetically, of 550 km/h.

The concept features no wheels, but hovers vertically and moves forwards with a system of specially fitted flaps. Changing of direction is made possible with the release of the available air inside the turbines. While it is unlikely that it will be turned into a production or even a prototype, perhaps it will inspire Hollywood filmmakers to consider adding similar flying machines into their next sci-fi film.
