Flying Above The Water
RaceBird Electric Powerboat

The very first season of a new electric race boat championship begins next year. The E1 Series has been specifically created for a competitive raceboat called the RaceBird that uses innovative hydrofoil technology and is fully powered by electricity.

The sleek design of the brand new RaceBird references single-seater race cars, with only a steering wheel, pedals, and the pilot’s seat inside the fully enclosed cockpit. The electric motor is produced by Mercury Racing and can generate a maximum output of 150 kW using a 35 kWh Kreisel battery, making it good for a top speed of 50 knots. With instant torque, the RaceBird quickly lifts onto its foils above the water, substantially reducing drag and maximising energy efficiency.

The prototype RaceBird completed a series of tests and performance runs with ex-powerboat champion Luca Ferrari earlier this year, so everything looks on track for the launch. As if this isn’t enough, Red Bull Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez, who worked with E1 Series co-founder Alejandro Agag during his GP2 Series days back in 2010, is confirmed to race in the 2023 E1 World Championship as part of Team Mexico.
