Five-Time Winner
Daytona-winning 1985 Mazda RX-7 for sale

The Mazda RX-7 was once a dark horse in the race world, often beating its more traditionally-powered contemporaries on the track. This particular RX-7 was a winner in IMSA’s GTU class on various tracks in America, including Road Atlanta, Summit Point, Watkins Glen, Mid Ohio and Sebring. If a more recognised race is needed to prove its excellent performance, the fact that it took victories in the GTU class five times at the 24 Hours of Daytona should be more than enough to tick the box.

Originally built in North Carolina, the car was the first to feature a custom tube chassis in the IMSA class and later wore updated bodywork in fibreglass. It was powered by a 1.3-litre 13B rotary engine, The current Team Highball livery in white, blue and black can be seen in period images. What’s more, the RX-7 was refurbished last year under the guidance of its original builder Amos Johnson. Bring A Trailer is selling this historical machine via online bidding, which will be closed within two days. The sale will include a number of spares and awards.
