Fit For All The Elements
Land Rover Explore R smartphone

Land Rover might seem like an unlikely brand to launch its own smartphone, but that’s exactly what the automaker did two years ago when it released a phone specifically designed for outdoor adventures when extra battery life is needed. But while it featured a sturdy case offering great protection from the harsh elements, it still lacked the practicality required for daily use. Now, Land Rover has released a sleek and upgraded version, dubbed the Explore R.

Like its predecessor, the new smartphone is built to withstand drops and water submersion but now also has a design that you’d feel comfortable bringing into a board meeting. Built with IP68 and MIL-SPEC 810H protection, the phone is inspired by the resilience of the Land Rover Defender. It has passed repeated drop tests at 1.8M onto steel and is fully waterproof – up to 1.5 m and for 35 minutes – as well as dust and sand proof. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 6, and the bright 5.7-inch HD+ display can also be controlled with wet fingers, a feature that anyone would find handy even for daily use.

The Explore R is powered by a 3,100mAh battery which can last up to 1.5 days even with heavy use in the outdoors, while the dashboard has live weather and marine forecasts, plus essential tools such as an altimeter, flashlight, GPS, coordinates, compass and more. The Explore Hub also offers an easy way to find the best outdoor activity apps on Android. Priced at £399, the Explore R would be the perfect adventure companion for hitting up some weekend trails.
