Lexus Kinetic Seat Concept

The Kinetic Seat Concept by Lexus should be one of the most talked about car components in the coming years. Due for introduction at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, this concept features a kinetically moveable seat cushion and backrest based on a unique ‘fibre net’ construction. The Kinetic Seat is all about making the occupant more comfortable by diffusing body weight for back support while also providing a comfortable driving position for a prolonged period.

The seat frame utilises a flexible spider web-patterned net that emanates from the centre of the back seat. The higher back helps sustain the head and neck. The seat cushion and backrest move with external forces, helping to secure the body during hard cornering. Drivers can rotate their pelvis and chest with ease helping to relieve tension and fatigue during long hours of driving. The concept has two additional talking points: the seat is slim, contributing to a reduction in overall car weight and further, the spine-friendly seat is also eco-friendly using synthetic spider silk, rather than petroleum-based material, to create the kinetic web pattern.
